Four Reasons Why Satisfaction With Chiropractic Care Is Really High

About eighty percent of United States adults suffer from back pain at some point. Back pain is the 5th most common reason for patient visits to doctors offices. Research regarding satisfaction with chiropractic care has been positive for over 20 years. Chiropractic patients have been very satisfied with their treatment and overwhelmingly would seek chiropractic care again.

While practicing, I noticed that over 75% of my patients had been under the care of a chiropractic doctor prior to coming in. Customarily, they had been doing well until their spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, etc. worsened significantly. But I was amazed at how chiropractic care had become mainstream and how well the patients said it had worked.

According to a 2000 Florida study over 92% of patients who had seen chiropractic doctors before would seek out chiropractic care again.

A recent survey of 14,000 consumers in May 2009 by Consumer Reports showed that 88% of those who had tried chiropractic manipulation were satisfied with how much it helped.

I credit the overwhelming satisfaction of chiropractic care to 4 things.

1) First, chiropractors get excellent training in the musculoskeletal system including physical examination and anatomy. So when they examine individuals with low back pain extensively and then discuss with them about the specifics of what is found, the vast majority of patients feel as if they have been taken care of very well with their work up.

2) Chiropractors do not attempt to cure their patients in 5 minutes. Plans for treatment routinely span weeks to months. This is not a sham. Without doubt it took quite a while for an individual’s back to end up in the painful situation. It may have begun with a simple sneeze, however, something had been brewing with the degenerative disc probably for quite some time. The sames as a physical therapy treatment plan spans weeks to months, a proper chiropractic regimen does the same to build the framework for a healthy future and provide appropriate pain relief. This repetitive time in the office allows patients to develop a connection with their chiropractor, the same as how patients develop a rapport with their primary care doctor. However one does not see his or her primary care doctor a few times a week for months typically.

3) Third, chiropractors often institute physical therapy (called physiotherapy) and spinal decompression regimens into treatment plans. What occures the patient then receives a full treament plan that benefits in a well-rounded method than just receiving a spinal manipulation. People who think all chiropractic doctors do is “rack them and crack them” would be very surprised to see the therapy departments their offices contain. Patients receive heat, ice, electrical stimulation, core strengthening, lumbar stabilization, spinal decompression, and other pain relief modalities.

4) Fourth, chiropractic therapy is very cost-effective. Taking into consideration the cost of surgery, hospital admissions, and name brand medications, a chiropractic doctor visit is significantly less costly. The cost benefit ratio is remarkably in its favor.

Based on these 4 reasons, it became clear why chiropractic adjustments and services are so helpful and make an abundance of patients satisfied.
